So how does this really work?
It's pretty simple. Families sign up. Vendors agree to put their
products on the site. The vendors have agreed to the percentage that they will
give back to the family (depending on the product, usually somewhere between
30-50%). When someone buys products through the family's site, the family
receives that percentage for their adoption.
Can any family adopting sign up?
We ask that the family be a traditional family and be approved for their
adoption. If you are a single adopting, please
contact us and we will
discuss the process for your signup.
We are also currently only allowing families in the United States to
sign up. We are hoping to widen this scope soon. If you are not needing money
for your adoption or if you've been home for 6 months, we ask you not create or
continue your site. The exception to that is special needs adoptions - we want
those families to keep their store open as long as they want.
Why do families need to submit a W9 form?
Because our accountant told us to. :) Because families are actually receiving the money, the
IRS treats that money like income. If families make over a certain amount on the site in a given calendar year,
we will send them a form showing what they made for their tax purposes.
Does it cost a family to sign up?
NO! The beauty of this site is that families can have the opportunity to sell
many, many amazing products without having to purchase or pay for anything. When an
order is placed, a family does pay a small fee for the transaction (similar to
etsy.com, ebay.com, etc. These small fee is used for website hosting cost
and future Paypal transactions for when the vendors and families are paid)
and a credit card processing fee to Paypal. These fees
are taken out of the proceeds so families never have any money out of their
pockets. Families can then request their money at any point (similar to Paypal.com).
Can I be a vendor?
We are ALWAYS looking to partner with more vendors to provide more products to
help our adoptive families bring their children home. If you are interested,

Can families be a vendor too?
YES! We want families who are selling products to put them up here as well. We
see that as a win-win situation -- families helping families.
Is Olive Tree Promise selling products?
No, Olive Tree Promise (OTP) does not sell any products. The purpose of OTP is
to provide the means to allow vendors and families to join forces to bring the
children home to their families.
When will I receive my products?
The vendors ship the products out from their location. If you have not received it in a reasonable
amount of time after that estimate, please
contact us!
Also, please remember if you purchased items from multiple vendors, the orders
will come separately.
Why does a family load when I go to http://www.olivetreepromise.com?
We want this site to be all about our families and not Olive Tree Promise. Because of that, we have "featured families"
and they will load if someone goes to just the regular website (and not the family-specific URL). This is great for the
featured family as they will have the potential for more orders because of this exposure.
Can I search for a family?
YES! You can find search under the 'families' navigation at the top. Searching is done by searching the country families are adopting from.
